Its the No Shave November, of course. Fun fact for the day; No-Shave November is a month-long journey during which participants forgo shaving and grooming in order to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness!
With a great beard, comes great responsibility to take care of it. The principles of taking care of your facial hair are similar to the way you would take care of your scalp hair. This blog is dedicated to those, who would love to continue growing their beard, and make it as manageable as possible. If you don’t already have one, maybe this blog may inspire you 😉. Here are some of the, what we call in the professional world, the Best Practices for beard care.
- Washing is for your beard too 🚿🚿!
As important as it is to wash your hair, or face, it is equally necessary to keep your beard mane clean. Not only does washing your beard removes the excess oil and dirt, but it also gives a much needed refreshment to your skin.
Beards must be washed every other alternate day. If you are using styling products like beard wax, or beard serum, beards need to be washed twice a day (Morning and Evening).
No styling product should be kept on a beard for more than 12 hours. If you wash it regularly, the excess oil and dirt can result in various skin troubles like pimples or allergies 😖.
Beards have specific products for beard mane care. In case of shampoos, they are designed as a mild product, owing that the skin is not affected by strong cleansing agents.
If a beard shampoo is not an option, always ensure that opt for a mild shampoo. Make sure, that while washing, the shampoo is properly rinsed off. If not, or if the shampoo is not mild, it could result in flaking.
- It’s time to Oil up:
Like Moms always say, oiling is a must to keep the hair smooth and help them grow faster. Well, Moms are never wrong, are they? 😝
Oiling is required to keep your beard mane nourished and make them easier to maintain.
As a good practice, applying oil overnight will provide the maximum benefit to your mane. If you have washed your beard in the evening, make sure you pat your beard dry, before you can apply oil.
There is a common misconception, that beard oils can be used as a styling product, for shaping your beard. Beard oils are only meant to provide nourishment to the beard.
If you are looking for a natural source of oil, instead of beard oils, Olive oil and Coconut oil are good alternatives.
- Wax-ination Wax-ination:
The use of beard wax depends on how you want your beard to look like. If you desire your beard to be in perfect shape, beard wax is your best friend. This styling product is used to mould your beard mane, and give it a shape.
Use a coin sized amount of wax, and apply it on your beard. Use a wide toothed comb, or your fingers to model it the way you would like it.
If you are using a beard wax, try not use any other styling product, a serum for instance. Just like using too many styling products on your hair would be harmful in the long run, the same applies to your beard hair. Minimalistic is the
- Que Serum Serum:
Using a Beard Serum, again, depends on how you want to beard to look like. If your primary concern is the shine ✨, then a beard serum is the solution.
Shake the serum bottle well, and massage it gently on your beard, covering the area completely. Let the serum penetrate into your skin, allowing it to function on you beard mane.
It is a good practice to apply the serum on your beard, just after you have washed in the morning. It would allow the serum to provide maximum benefit.
In addition to using the right products, make sure that you get your beard trimmed once in every 3-4 weeks. Should you wish to do it on your own, this blog should help you. Ensure that you comb your beard with a wide toothed comb, after which you can use a fine toothed comb to shape them; Or you can even use a beard brush. You don’t want to look like a prehistoric stone age man, or a nomad now, do you? Always ensure your beard is clean and nourished, so that you can Slay It All The Way!!
